Kenneth T. Strom, PLS

Director of Surveying

Kenneth Strom is a licensed professional land surveyor with over 40 years of experience in surveying and 14 years in civil engineering design. He earned his Professional Land Surveyor registration in 1992.


Before joining WDA Design Group, Ken worked with various land surveying and civil engineering firms in roles such as:

  • Chief surveyor
  • Survey office manager
  • Civil engineering designer
  • Senior project manager


His expertise includes a wide range of land surveys such as:

  • Boundary surveys
  • Land Court surveys
  • ALTA/NSPS title insurance surveys
  • Topographic, utility, and detail surveys
  • Condominium surveys
  • Highway layout alterations
  • Easement and right-of-way surveys
  • Construction layout and as-builts
  • Deformation monitoring


Ken has worked on projects across Massachusetts, including seven years on major projects in Boston and Cambridge, such as the Central Artery/Tunnel Project, also known as the “Big Dig.” His clients have included:

  • Massachusetts Turnpike Authority
  • Massachusetts DOT
  • MBTA
  • Massachusetts DCAMM
  • BWSC
  • City of Boston DPW
  • City of Worcester DPW
  • Other Massachusetts municipalities
  • Commercial developers, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities


In addition to surveying, Ken has extensive experience in:

  • Design and permitting of residential subdivisions
  • Site plans for commercial, industrial, retail, academic, and institutional clients
  • Chapter 40B projects


Ken regularly presents projects to Planning Boards, Zoning Boards of Appeals, and Conservation Commissions, earning approvals through collaboration and meticulous attention to detail. He supports his projects through construction by:

  • Conducting site inspections
  • Reviewing shop drawings
  • Coordinating with contractors
  • Ensuring permit closeouts


Ken stays current in the field by participating in industry seminars focused on surveying, civil engineering, and land development. He is proficient in various software platforms, including:

  • Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Carlson Survey & Civil Suite
  • HydroCAD
  • HEC-RAS


Outside of Work

Ken enjoys spending time with family and friends, engaging in outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, biking, kayaking and snowshoeing. Ken is actively involved with Wachusett Greenways on their trail-building projects and the White Oak Land Conservation Society, assisting with property acquisition, maintenance, and monitoring initiatives.
