Warwick comprehensive plan

The Warwick Comprehensive Plan Update sets out a 20-year policy and strategic framework for the City of Warwick, RI. The plan sets forth an overall vision that embodies the unique personality, culture, and heritage of the community, and establish a set of goals, policies, strategies and implementation actions to achieve the plan’s vision of the future.

Working closely with the Warwick Planning Department as subconsultant to Goody Clancy, WDADG was responsible for the Open Space and Recreation, Natural Resources, and Resiliency/Climate Change Elements of the Comprehensive Plan.

The Open Space and Recreation element focuses on enhanced management, protection and access to open space and recreation, including discussion of access to water amenities, future uses for the former Rocky Point Amusement Park property, potential future open space acquisitions, and consistency with the State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.

The Natural Resources element focuses particularly on management and protection of natural resources, including landscape character, natural wetland, and water systems.

The Resilience/Climate Change element focuses on preparing Warwick to adapt to future environmental change and hazards.  It incorporates the city’s hazard mitigation plan and includes strategies related to stormwater management and flooding.

The Warwick Comprehensive Plan Update utilizes new technology to increase community participation and dialogue, including online surveys, public meetings at the neighborhood and city level, and public meetings by areas of interest.  This public planning process – including a dedicated website – makes the residents of Warwick the owners of the plan.
