Larry’s nearly two decades of professional practice are highlighted by a diverse knowledge of landscape architecture and many of its associated technical and design fields, including soil evaluation, turfgrass management, and wetland delineation. His experience working side by side with civil engineers and land surveyors provides the basis for his ability to advance creative land development solutions that meet the highest technical accuracy standards while still retaining strong elements of a designed landscape. His extensive knowledge of the design and permitting process allows him to quickly and successfully obtain necessary local and state approvals, while still meeting clients’ objectives and budgets. Larry’s responsibilities at WDA Design Group include comprehensive site design and planning, development of construction documents and bid specifications, construction management, business development and client procurement.
Larry’s experience has mainly focused on recreational, municipal and commercial property site development. His experience in the design of recreational synthetic turf fields includes installations at Becker College and a private high school in Worcester, as well as Master Plans and designs for proposed fields for the Towns of Holden, Sterling, Boylston, and Shirley, the City of Worcester, Ayer High School, Leominster High School, and the Stetson School in Barre. His municipal and educational design experience includes projects at the Dedham Middle School, the Littleton Middle School, the Bromfield School in Harvard, Anna Maria College in Paxton, Becker College in Leicester, the Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, the Townsend Town Common, the Canton Public Library, the Blackstone Public Library, Boxford Town Hall, and public safety facilities in Lunenburg, Acton, Sterling, and North Grafton. His commercial development work includes design and permitting for large scale projects in Devens, Groton, Boylston, Sterling and Shrewsbury; an over 55 community in Worcester; subdivisions in Fitchburg, Boylston and Shrewsbury; a mixed-use mill conversion project along the Nashua River in Fitchburg; a shopping plaza redevelopment in West Boylston; a hotel in Shrewsbury; and retail developments in Boylston and Shrewsbury.
Prior to joining WDA, Larry spent the majority of his career designing at Central Massachusetts multi-disciplinary firms, where his responsibilities included managing staff and close coordination with large, complex multi-disciplinary teams. His additional skills and experience in soil evaluation, turfgrass management, and wetland delineation and replication make him a valuable part of our studio practice, lending important technical insight, expertise and guidance to our design teams on a variety of project types.
Larry’s love of plants started as a child growing up on a Christmas Tree Farm. Every spring Larry and his sisters would plant 2,200 new trees. The farm specialized in growing a variety of Christmas trees such as Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, White Spruce, Fraser Fir, and Douglas Fir. As Larry got older he helped his father manage the planting, pruning, and selling of trees.
Larry has four boys so his spare time is minimal, but when he is out of the office and can sneak away, he enjoys mountain biking, skiing, fly fishing, and sampling whiskey.
