David Harrington, SIT

Senior Land Survey Manager

David Harrington is an experienced land surveyor with 32+ years of experience in surveying in civil engineering design, and currently working towards obtaining his Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) Registration.

Prior to joining WDA Design Group, Mr. Harrington has worked with area land surveying and civil engineering firms in roles such as Survey Crew Chief, Survey Project Manager, Field Operations Manager, and CAD Manager .

Mr. Harrington has been involved in all types of land surveys including boundary, Land Court, title insurance (ALTA/NSPS), data collection (topographic, utilities and detail surveys), condominium, easement and right-of-way, construction layout and as-builts, and deformation monitoring.

Dave has utilized drones and various surveying equipment including total stations (manual and robotic) and data collectors, traditional and digital levels, laser levels, high definition laser scanners, and GNSS receivers.) Dave developed, designed and implemented Survey field and office standards and was responsible for training survey personnel.

During his career, Dave has performed work on various projects (under direct supervision of a licensed land surveyor) such as Boundary survey and extensive title research for Hydro-Electric Dams on the Blackstone River in Rhode Island. Sub-surface utility mapping for a large development on an old Naval Air Station in Weymouth, MA. Survey mapping of approximately 10,000 burial plots at Mount Auburn cemetery in Cambridge, MA. Survey construction support for MassDOT on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in Sudbury, MA. Deformation Monitoring for a large LNG facility in Everett, MA. NGRID URD surveys throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Dave has employed the use of a drone for aerial mapping purposes to produce existing conditions plans in a CAD format.

Currently Dave is working on a large existing conditions survey to MassDOT standards for a portion of a state highway and local connector road for design of a new multi-use bike trail.tier 1

Mr. Harrington participates in various MALSCE seminars to keep current with industry standards, regulations and codes in the fields of surveying, engineering and land development. Dave is proficient with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey & Civil Suite experience, as well as other civil engineering software packages such as Infinity Software (Leica), Faro Laser Scanner, Leica Survey Equipment, ESRI Arc-GIS and Q-GIS.

Outside of work, Dave enjoys hunting, fishing, hockey, coaching youth sports (baseball and hockey) boating, and hanging out on the beach.
